According a report from of Germany, Bayern have backtracked on their decision to part ways with Coman this summer in the aftermath of their failure to tie Leroy Sane down to a new contract. Kompany wants to count on Coman next season after Sane completed his transfer to Galatasaray, leaving the Bavarians in need of attacking depth.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coman was linked with a transfer to Arsenal in April, with the Gunners reportedly seeking to capitalise on the Frenchman's lack of playing time at the Allianz Arena. There were inquiries from clubs from Saudi Arabia, too, with Bayern keen on getting his €17.5 million (£15m/$20m) salary off the wage bill. However, Kompany demands his continuation at the club for at least another year, with the Frenchman tied to a contract until 2027.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Bayern's reluctance to offload the 29-year-old could also be pointed towards their inability to convince other targets to join them this summer. Die Roten were said to be keen on signing Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but the Champions League holders have refused to put him up for sale, with the winger said to be indispensable to Luis Enrique's plans. Bayern were also linked with Athletic Club's Nico Williams, going so far as to meet with the player's agent. But they seem to have fallen behind in the race to land the Spanish international, with Barcelona considered to be in pole position to acquire his services.

Coman scored twice and registered an assists in Bayern's 10-0 rout of Auckland City in their opening game of the Club World Cup. If the report from is true, the forward will likely continue for another year in Bavaria. He will be expected to start in the side's second game, in which they face Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors on Saturday, June 21.

Rob Jones century trumps Tom Taylor's allround exploits in emphatic Worcestershire win

Jake Libby contributes 82 in record third-wicket stand of 194 against Northamptonshire

ECB Reporters Network16-Aug-2023Worcestershire 253 for 3 (Jones 122, Libby 82*) beat Northamptonshire 252 (Taylor 100) by seven wickets Rob Jones struck a superb 122 from 126 balls, his first List A century, to lead Worcestershire Rapids to their fourth Metro Bank One Day Cup victory of the season against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road. Jones was joined by his skipper Jake Libby (82) in a record third-wicket partnership for Worcestershire against Northamptonshire, putting on 194 runs in exactly 31 overs as they chased down 253 in 43.1 overs with seven wickets to spare. The pair settled the Rapids’ nerves after Northamptonshire centurion Tom Taylor took two early wickets. They paced their chase perfectly, largely ignoring risk to start and working the ball into the gaps to keep up with the run-rate. Gifted three lives by Northamptonshire’s fielders as they started to accelerate, they otherwise looked untroubled throughout. Jones hit 12 fours and three sixes as he repeatedly lofted Simon Kerrigan down the ground, while forcefully driving and pulling the seamers.Taylor had struck an excellent 100 off 80 balls, his second century of this year’s campaign to rescue the Steelbacks from a perilous 139 for seven with Dillon Pennington taking three for 47.The in-form Steelbacks all-rounder had looked a class apart after Northamptonshire lost three middle-order wickets for 18 runs, all to shots drilled straight to fielders. He put on 108 with James Sales (25), striking 14 fours and one huge six onto the roof of the Turner Stand, but chose his shots intelligently, finding the gaps and striking the ball cleanly.Northamptonshire’s hopes were dealt a big blow before play when Prithvi Shaw, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The Indian international who scored a club List A record 244 against Somerset last week, sustained the injury during the county’s win over Durham on Sunday. Scan results received by the club this morning revealed the injury was worse than initially expected.Put into bat, Northamptonshire lost two early wickets and while Ricardo Vasconcelos made 25, he became Pennington’s second victim when he edged low to Josh Baker at second slip.Rob Keogh and Luke Procter started to rebuild in a partnership of 49. Keogh looked fluent, and undeterred after being struck on the helmet by Logan van Beek, he clipped off his legs and pulled Pat Brown to the ropes. His downfall came in tame fashion though when he drove a ball from Brown loosely to point on 35. Brown struck again in his next over when Justin Broad drilled him straight to mid-off.Luke Procter (31) had driven nicely and timed two late cuts behind square off one van Beek over. But he had a rush of blood and came down the track to Baker, attempting to hit the ball over the inner circle only to pick out Gareth Roderick who took a good catch above his head.Luke McManus (15) and Taylor attempted to steady the ship in a stand of 34. McManus dispatched Baker down the ground for six but came forward to Waite and yorked himself as his leg-stump was knocked over with Northamptonshire in real trouble at 139 for seven. In walked Taylor who timed the ball from the get-go, striking Baker back over his head, pulling Waite and Pennington dismissively and hitting Brown down the ground, as well as sweeping the spinners adeptly.Sales hit one early boundary but was content to play the supporting role alongside Taylor until he was trapped lbw by Pennington. Van Beek then struck twice in the penultimate over to wrap up the innings, Taylor the last to go, caught at long-off.Taylor struck in the opening over of the chase, when Roderick was adjudged to have chopped the ball onto his pads, before rebounding to Gay who took the catch at second slip.Ed Pollock had some fun punching down the ground before playing one big shot too many and being caught at deep backward square leg off Taylor.Just three boundaries came in Jones and Libby’s first 50 runs together as they rebuilt, but they kept the run rate over five throughout, advancing towards their target with relative comfort. With Jones starting to fire, Libby too located the boundary ropes as the runs kept coming.Northamptonshire brought in the field and shuffled their bowlers but gifted the Rapids three lifelines which cost them dear. Libby was dropped by McManus on 29 and had another stroke of luck on 60 when Gay put down an easy chance at mid-off off Kerrigan. Jones meanwhile was put down by Broad off his own bowling on 77. He made the most of the reprieve as he advanced to three figures before finally falling, caught in the deep off Kerrigan. An enormous six from Kashif Ali took Worcestershire to the brink of victory, before Libby scored the winning run.

Sri Lanka look to seal Super Fours spot as Afghanistan await in batter-friendly Lahore

Sri Lanka have won their last 11 ODIs, but their Asia Cup campaign could end if Afghanistan win – and win big

Big pictureSri Lanka have played one game in the Asia Cup so far, and won it. But if things go awry against Afghanistan on Tuesday, they very well could be out of the tournament; such is the nature of it. But for that to happen, Afghanistan need to win – and win big. How big will depend on the precise match situation, but hypothetically speaking, if they were to score 275 runs batting first, they would need to win by a margin of at least 68 runs, or chase down any target in 35 overs or less.Suffice to say this gives Sri Lanka a pretty nifty buffer, especially on a Lahore surface that has been positively greedy for runs. This will also be, you imagine, quite a relief for Sri Lanka’s batters, who have over the past month – primarily during the LPL – been subjected to far less batter-friendly tracks. That said, the toss is likely to play a pretty major role. While the team bowling second might have to contend with dew, it’s an arguably rougher deal for the side bowling first as they would have to do so in the searing Lahore heat. Indeed, speaking post match on Sunday after their win against Afghanistan, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan brought it up unprompted as one of the key reasons they won that match, pointing out that it wouldn’t have been easy for Afghanistan to bat after fielding in that heat for 50 overs.Related

Match conditions aside, Sri Lanka facing Afghanistan should be a fairly even contest. Of the last five completed ODIs between these two sides, Sri Lanka edge it 3-2. And this is now a Sri Lanka side without pretty much their entire first-choice bowling attack. These sides, however, don’t tend to have too many nail-biters, with four of those five games ending in pretty dominant wins.If you’re of Afghan persuasion, that’s a promising sign; but you have to imagine the odds are still pretty heavily stacked in Sri Lanka’s favour. Against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka showed that even with injuries, they still possess enough firepower and nous to take ten wickets in a match, while Afghanistan still have to disprove the notion that their batting is a soft touch once you get past the top order.Form guideAfghanistan LLLLL (last five ODIs, most recent first)
Sri Lanka WWWWWRahmanullah Gurbaz has the propensity to either go big or go home•AFP/Getty Images

In the spotlightRahmanullah Gurbaz has been a part of every single edition of the LPL, so the Sri Lankans will be quite familiar with his game. Which means they’ll know that if allowed to proceed unchecked, he is a genuine match winner. Gurbaz also has the propensity to either go big or go home; in his last ten ODI innings, he has scores of 145 and 151, even as five others were in single digits. His highest score in that period aside from his centuries is 22. A firing Gurbaz is a must if Afghanistan are to complete this escape act.The nature of Lahore’s pitch means that any result is pretty much a shootout between each side’s respective batters, but in Maheesh Theekshana, Sri Lanka possess a secret weapon. Theekshana is as consistent as they come: in 23 ODIs, he has grabbed at least one wicket in all but five matches, while his economy rate has breached the five-runs-per-over mark just five times. The only caveat is that he has played all these matches either at home or in Zimbabwe, both providing conditions that have suited him quite nicely. In Lahore, he won’t have that luxury, but it’s a test he will most certainly relish.Team newsAfghanistan’s bowlers struggled against Bangladesh, with the seamers in particular taking some stick. Noor Ahmad is an option to replace one of Karim Janat or Gulbadin Naib, while Riaz Hassan could also come in to freshen up the middle order.Afghanistan (probable): 1 Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), 2 Ibrahim Zadran, 3 Rahmat Shah, 4 Hashmatullah Shahidi (capt), 5 Najibullah Zadran, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Gulbadin Naib 8 Karim Janat, 9 Rashid Khan, 10 Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 11 Fazalhaq FarooqiIf Sri Lanka play Kusal Perera, he could replace one of the two openers•AFP/Getty Images

Sri Lanka will likely head in with an unchanged XI, though if they were to include Kusal Perera in the side, one of Dimuth Karunaratne or Pathum Nissanka could make way. Dushan Hemantha also provides a wristspin option.Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Dimuth Karunaratne, 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Kusal Mendis (wk), 4 Sadeera Samarawickrama, 5 Charith Asalanka 6 Dhananjaya de Silva, 7 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 8 Dushan Hemantha/Dunith Wellalage, 9 Maheesh Theekshana, 10 Kasun Rajitha 11 Matheesha PathiranaPitch and conditionsScores of 300 are par for the course in Lahore, with Bangladesh hitting 334 last time out without much trouble. The weather too is expected to be hot and humid, with highs touching 37 degrees potentially, although it should settle around 26 degrees by evening. Winning the toss and batting first seems a no-brainer.Stats and trivia A win would see Sri Lanka record a 12th consecutive ODI victory, the second-longest such streak in history. Pakistan (once) and South Africa (twice) have also won 12 in a row, while Australia hold the all-time record with 21 straight wins. Sri Lanka have played 13 matches in Lahore, and won nine. Their win percentage of 69.23% is the highest of any side to have played at least ten games at the Gaddafi Stadium there. Rahmanullah Gurbaz is 46 runs away from reaching 1000 ODI runs.

England to host Zimbabwe for one-off four-day Test in May 2025

England will host Zimbabwe in May 2025 for a four-day Test, marking the first Test match between the sides since June 2003. The game will be played from May 28 to 31 but the venue is yet to be confirmed. In all the two have played each other in six Tests, Zimbabwe hosting England in the long format in 1996 and touring the UK in 2000 and 2003 for two games apiece. The teams have not played a bilateral series against each other in any format since 2004, with relations between the two boards severed due to political tensions stemming from issues in Zimbabwe under the Robert Mugabe government.England forfeited points in the 2003 World Cup after refusing to travel to Harare to play Zimbabwe, and the ECB suspended bilateral agreements with Zimbabwe on government advice in 2005. Relations between the two countries have improved in recent years, leading to a resumed dialogue between the two cricket boards. This will be Zimbabwe’s second four-day Test match – they played South Africa in a day-night four-dayer in Gqeberha in December 2017. England have played two four-day Tests, both against Ireland, in 2019 and 2023.ECB chief executive Richard Gould said of the development: “We are delighted to be able to host Zimbabwe for a Men’s Test match for the first time in two decades. Zimbabwe has a proud cricket history and have produced world-class players and coaches who have enriched the game across the world.”We are committed to developing a closer relationship with Zimbabwe Cricket and the announcement of this Test against our England Men’s team is a step in that ambition.”Kevin Pietersen made his England debut in their most recent bilateral series against Zimbabwe, in 2004•Clive Rose/Getty Images

ZC managing director, Givemore Makoni, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be playing bilateral cricket in England for the first time in over two decades after we agreed to play a Test match in May 2025.”The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the ECB for committing to the resumption of cricketing relations between our countries that date back to the introduction of the game in Zimbabwe in the 1890s.”The experience of playing a Test match against a top team like England is massive for the current generation of our players, coming at a time when our game as a whole is on an upward trajectory.”England were due to be the only one of the 12 ICC full members not to play Zimbabwe in an bilateral series as per the 2022-2027 future tours programme. For the ECB, the move is part of a concerted effort to re-position itself as an ally to full member nations who had previously been overlooked for Test cricket.England also have five home Tests against India scheduled for the 2025 home summer, while Lord’s is due to host the World Test Championship final.

As oitavas pagaram R$ 3 milhões.

Shakib rues Bangladesh's 'very poor batting display'

“On a wicket like this, we shouldn’t lose four wickets in the first ten overs”

Mohammad Isam07-Sep-20231:51

Jaffer: Bangladesh need to re-assess their shot selection

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan lamented his side’s poor powerplay with the bat as they suffered a seven-wicket loss against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Four opener. After winning the toss and batting first, Bangladesh slipped to 47 for 4 in the tenth over, allowing the home side to dictate terms from an early stage.Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who made his second ODI century against Afghanistan in the previous game, fell for a first-ball duck in the second over, before Shaheen Shah Afridi got one to rear at the returning Litton Das in the fifth to have him caught behind. Mohammad Naim skied a pull off Haris Rauf, who took the return catch before bursting one through Towhid Hridoy in the tenth over.Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim put together a 100-run fifth-wicket stand that helped them recover somewhat, but that work was undone as they lost their last four wickets in nine balls, starting with the fall of Mushfiqur in the 38th over.Related

Shakib said that the fifth-wicket stand should have lasted a bit longer but kept an eye on the broader picture as he reflected on their “hot-and-cold” batting unit.”We lost early wickets in the start, and we played some ordinary shots,” Shakib said after the match. “On a wicket like this, we shouldn’t lose four wickets in the first ten overs but it happens. Our partnership [for the fifth wicket] was good, [I] thought we needed to bat seven or eight more overs. Very poor batting display on a surface like this, but we have to move on to the next one.”They are the No. 1 team and these are the reasons. They have three world-class bowlers who are making things easier for them. We have been doing well in the bowling department, but batting is a bit hot and cold. We need to be more consistent.”Bangladesh’s assistant coach Nic Pothas later said that the batters had to make better decisions in their shot selection. “As a batting unit, we didn’t make the right decisions at the right time in these conditions,” Pothas said. “It was always going to be a challenge for a team in transition. You want to try to put a score on the board when you win the toss and bat first. You are also talking about an elite bowling attack. I think the options we took made life easy for that seam attack.”Ideally, we would have liked to bat a lot deeper than that and get a score on the board. But that’s the nature of playing against top-seam attacks. We need to improve but if it was that easy, everybody would be doing it.”Pothas said it was good that Bangladesh’s batters faced Pakistan’s bowlers at least once before the World Cup. The two teams have hardly played any ODI cricket against each other in recent years. Their last bilateral ODI series was in 2015, when Bangladesh won 3-0 at home.”We haven’t played a lot against Pakistan,” Pothas said. “They are high on confidence at the moment. They are No. 1 in the world. They played like the best team in the world. But they played in their home conditions. They know how to play at this ground better than anybody. But this added experience makes our batters better.”Shakib, meanwhile, praised the Bangladesh fast bowlers for their continued good showing at the highest level. Since the 2019 ODI World Cup, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers were second only to Pakistan’s in terms of average and strike rate among the Full Member nations.”I thought our three seamers bowled brilliantly,” Shakib said. “Like Pakistan, our seamers have been bowling very well in the last couple of years. But, unfortunately, on a pitch like this, you can’t get wickets unless batters make mistakes.”

The Bundesliga's most decorated player, available on a free transfer this summer, even suggested retirement could be an option, even though he wants to keep playing. He said clubs from more more "exotic" countries have a better chance of acquiring his services, as he looks for an overall project at this late stage of his career.

WHAT MULLER SAID

Muller told : "Basically, I wouldn't object to playing with Messi , but I don't have any direct contact with Miami right now. Given my current physical condition, I'd like to continue playing because this game of football is simply fun, but maybe I'll actually retire. Anything is still possible, and I'm not stressing about it."

When asked about moving to another club, Muller said: "The overall package has to be right. More distant or exotic countries have an advantage over the domestic league."
