As grandes possibilidade do Botafogo disputar a Taça Libertadores pela segunda vez consecutiva, algo inédito na história do clube, animam o volante Bruno Silva. Ele revelou que a chance de fazer história motiva o elenco e prometeu a vaga em 2018.

– A Libertadores foi um Campeonato em que muitos de nós (do elenco) disputamos pela primeira vez e gostamos muito de jogar. Será umfeito inédito para o Botafogo e vamos atrás disso. Queremos marcar história e brigar por títulos. Esse ano ficamos muito perto, mas temos que continuar o trabalho está sendo bem feito. Younis Khan has not had, personally, a tournament to remember. He fractured his finger in a warm-up game and missed his side’s opening game. Despite being advised four weeks rest, he returned to play against India with hopes of a memorable contribution and played in the rest of their games with the injury.But he struggled with the bat, a series of stuttered innings holding back whatever start Pakistan’s openers often provided. The injury – to the small finger on his right and bottom hand – visibly hindered his batting and his 15 against New Zealand completed a tournament where he made just 53 runs. More pertinently tonight, the injury led to Younis dropping a sitter, off Grant Elliott, at a crucial moment in the game.Elliott was struggling along on 42 in the 40th over when Mohammad Aamer came back into the attack as Pakistan searched for wickets. Elliott drove limply to short cover, where Younis tried to take, awkwardly, with fingers pointing up, but dropped. New Zealand were 165 for 4 at the time and the drop had about it the feel of a match-turning moment. Soon after Elliott finally opened up, and with solid help from Daniel Vettori saw his side through to the final.Younis, usually a safe catcher and Pakistan’s most reliable slip fielder, agreed later that it was an important miss. “Actually it was very crucial. It was a simple one but I just dropped it. Maybe after that catch, things would’ve changed. It’s the broken finger more than anything. I was trying to save the finger.”Questions will be raised over whether it was right that Younis took part, carrying an injury. But if he had not played there would likely have been outrage at him shirking responsibility. This one battle, he wasn’t going to win.”I dropped that catch and I will remember it because maybe the situation would’ve changed,” said Younis. “But if you play for the country with a broken finger…in previous matches I got a run-out and a good catch and people praised it, saying he is doing it with a broken finger. Today we made some mistakes and lost and paid for it so, I am not worried just about dropping the catch.”

Nesse momento de alta, Sidão não cansa de falar em Rogério Ceni, responsável por sua contratação, no começo do ano. E o Mito, que viaja pela Europa para continuar se especializando na função de treinador, fez questão de felicitar o camisa 12 pelas defesas que fez contra o Sport.

– Sou grato ao Rogério. Sei como é difícil ter contato com o Rogério. É, realmente, um privilégio poder trocar mensagens com ele. Ele me mandou parabéns da Inglaterra. Sou grato a Deus por tê-lo colocado no meu caminho e a ele por ter aberto as portas do São Paulo para mim, ainda mais sendo o maior ídolo, tendo jogado na posição. يوفيتش الذي لم يثبت نفسه في المواسم الأخيرة مع ريال مدريد، يريد العودة إلى صدارة كرة القدم الأوروبية مع فيورنتينا.

وأفاد: “أنا مستعد للعودة إلى مستواي القديم، ولهذا، من المهم جدًا اللعب في أوروبا، نود جميعًا أن نكون في فريق يلعب دوري أبطال أوروبا، لكن دوري المؤتمرالأوروبي يمنحنا فرصة جديدة وأعتقد أن فيورنتينا من بين المرشحين للفوز بها، لدينا الجودة للوصول إلى النهائي”.

West Brom’s first Championship match in December sees them take on Coventry City away from home at the weekend.

Albion have racked up an incredibly mixed bag of results throughout October and November with the Baggies heading into the match at Coventry with three draws and a defeat in their four previous league games with just one goal scored.

In terms of what XI Valerien Ismael could pick to start the match, there’s one area of the pitch that could give the boss some cause for concern on this occasion.

With Jake Livermore and Jayson Molumby serving bans and Robert Snodgrass seemingly out of the frame altogether, it seems as though Ismael could have a decision to make over who will play alongside Alex Mowatt in central-midfield.

Opportunity knocks

One player that could take advantage of this situation and make his mark on the team is 18-year-old Tom Fellows, who has been on the substitutes bench for West Brom’s two previous league games.

Despite predominantly playing on the right-hand side of the pitch or left-hand side on occasions in the past, this could be the opportunity that Fellows has been waiting for to show Ismael what he can do in the senior team to see if he can do a job for them in a new central role.

With West Brom u18 manager Peter Gilbert previously saying that Fellows has “physical aspects which can hurt teams, no matter which position he plays in,” this suggests that the youngster could have what it takes to at least fill in for the missing senior central-midfielders on this occasion and possibly even transform how the team plays altogether.

Indeed, with four goal involvements in Premier League 2 this term, there is certainly a case to be made that he could influence proceedings in the final third for the Albion first-team.

However, given how West Brom could really do with a win to get their season back on track and keep them in the race for a promotion place back to the Premier League, Ismael may see it as too much of a risk to play an inexperienced youngster in an unfamiliar position against senior opposition.

That said, if Ismael took the gamble and put Fellows in from the start against Coventry and he manages to make the most out of the opportunity and impress his manager, this could well spark the start of his senior career at The Hawthorns, which would surely be incredibly exciting for the fans.

Newcastle United could attempt an ‘ambitious’ January move for Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to Scott Wilson for The Northern Echo. 

The lowdown

The Ukrainian has only played 56 minutes across City’s first 12 Premier League fixtures, although that’s partly down to injury.

In total, he has made 105 appearances for the Cityzens, collecting three Premier League winners’ medals among the 10 trophies he has won at the club, and he was named Ukraine’s Footballer of the Year in 2019.

It’s therefore clear to see that the 24-year-old, who has been labelled ‘incredible’ by his manager Pep Guardiola, isn’t short of pedigree.

The Manchester City defender fits Eddie Howe’s criteria in that he is proven in the Premier League and he also ticks an important box for the new PIF ownership, who are keen to scope out players who are struggling for game-time at their current clubs.

According to Wilson, there has been ‘talk’ that the Magpies will attempt an audacious swoop for Zinchenko if he can’t break into Guardiola’s first team on a regular basis.

The verdict

Newcastle operated with wing-backs during the first game of Howe’s reign last weekend, with Matt Ritchie on the left and Jacob Murphy on the right.

One player who watched on from the bench was Jamal Lewis, with the £15m signing being tipped to benefit from Howe’s arrival ‘given his engine’. However, this report is a worrying development for the Northern Irishman, who has played a mere six Premier League minutes this season and may struggle to dislodge a player of Zinchenko’s calibre and CV.

Lewis needs to prove to his new manager in the coming weeks that Howe doesn’t need to look elsewhere for a left-back when the next transfer window opens.

A vitória que finalmente tirou o São Paulo da zona de rebaixamento do Brasileirão não foi fácil. O placar de 1 a 0 sobre o Sport, com gol de Marcos Guilherme, foi batalhado até o fim e se não fosse a estrela de Sidão, com duas defesas fantásticas nos acréscimos, a história seria outra.

Mesmo que o arqueiro tenha dado alguns sustos quando tentou usar os pés, as defesas nos cabeceios de Thomás e de Oswaldo Henríquez apagaram qualquer uma dessas jogadas que tiraram o sossego do são-paulino, mas Sidão prefere dividir os méritos com os companheiros.

– Defesa é coletiva, eu estava bem colocado, não é justo gritar só meu nome no estádio. Tem de gritar o nome de todo mundo, gritar o nome do São Paulo, porque somos todos São Paulo – comemorou o goleiro após a partida.
