Arena Corinthians inicia reforma no gramado; confira as imagens

Leeds enter Armando Broja battle

Leeds United are the latest side to be linked with a move for Armando Broja…

What’s the word?

That’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim that as many as three new Premier League sides are eyeing up a move for the Chelsea striker this summer after an impressive campaign so far on loan to Southampton.

Alongside the Whites, Everton and Wolves have entered the race.

It remains to be seen what sort of fee the 20-year-old gem would command with CIES Football Observatory currently valuing him at €40m (£34m), and then there is the matter of whether or not the Blues will want to sell, even though he’s well down the pecking order behind the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Much-needed addition

Whilst this wouldn’t be a signing for the January transfer window, it is one that the Yorkshiremen desperately need to make heading into next season.

As we’ve seen throughout the year, manager Marcelo Bielsa has suffered from numerous injury problems which have affected key areas, like in attack.

For instance, he has been without Patrick Bamford and his goals for much of the season. The England international has missed 17 of their last 18 league games with three different issues. He has no backup, leaving the Argentine head coach rather short.

United should be safe from relegation but they cannot afford to go into next year with just one senior striker as deploying wingers like Daniel James and Jack Harrison up front just isn’t as effective as having another centre-forward.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-lufc-transfer-rumours-gossip-bielsa-orta-radrizzani-elland-road-updates” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

And Broja has proven that he can cut it with the best. He’ll find game time very hard to come by at Stamford Bridge, so a move to Elland Road could appeal.

As per Transfermarkt, the young Albanian international has found the net seven times across 21 appearances for the Saints in all competitions.

Speaking about his form this campaign, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl waxed lyrical about his ability and threat in the final third.

“He’s a great threat. He didn’t have many poor games this season so today he showed again how dangerous he can be for the opponent and he’s very helpful for our game,” he told the BBC after a 4-1 win over Brentford earlier this month.

Indeed, at 6 foot 3, Broja is a bit of a target man-like presence in the penalty box and one that could very much operate in a similar role to Bamford at Leeds.

According to football scout Jacek Kulig his strengths are “finishing, instinct, power, athleticism, and heading,” whilst he’s won 2.7 aerial duels and averaged 1.1 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Bielsa  – or whoever is in charge next season – badly needs another striker at the club and on the above evidence, Broja seems like an ideal candidate to target, should he be available.

Stevens helps scrapping Kent avoid follow-on

Lancashire’s hopes of winning their opening three Championship games for thefirst time in 15 years remain very much intact despite the efforts of DarrenStevens whose unbeaten century frustrated Glen Chapple’s bowlers on the secondday of their Champions

28-Apr-2010
ScorecardLancashire’s hopes of winning their opening three Championship games for thefirst time in 15 years remain very much intact despite the efforts of DarrenStevens whose unbeaten century frustrated Glen Chapple’s bowlers on the secondday of their Championship match against Kent at Old Trafford.Replying to the home side’s first-innings total of 320, Rob Key’s batsmen hadstruggled to 97 for 7 before Stevens’ 92-run eighth-wicket partnership withMatt Coles changed the contest.Stevens had made 101 not out by the time Kent were bowled out for 213.Lancashire added 68 to their first-innings lead of 107 before bad light and rainended play 15 overs early, but they had lost Tom Smith, for his sixth successivesingle figure Championship score, Paul Horton and Stephen Moore in the process. This leaves Glen Chapple’s side with a lead of 175 with seven wickets in handand two days of this fluctuating contest still to play. However, while Lancashire’s Sajid Mahmood will look back on the day with pleasure – he claimed 5 for 55 from 18.5 overs – it was Stevens’ innings which altered the balance of the game.Mixing doughty defence with uninhibited aggression, the former Leicestershireall-rounder, who had taken four wickets in Lancashire’s first innings, clubbedtwo mighty sixes and 10 fours in his 129-ball stay at the wicket. When Makhaya Ntini was last man out – caught at leg gully off the back of thebat attempting to avoid a Mahmood bouncer – Lancashire’s lead had been reducedto a healthy advantage, but nothing like the abundance they had envisagedearlier in the day.Stevens needed his luck – Chapple dropped a steepler at deep mid-on when he was53 – but he perhaps deserved a little good fortune and his performance spikedthe guns of a home attack led by the fired-up Mahmood. Most of Kent’s top order were unable to cope with Lancashire’s purposeful andwell-directed new-ball bowling in the pre-lunch session. Only Geraint Jones survived for long, and even he came in for lunch knowing he had ridden his luck.Chapple started the rot, and also claimed his 700th first-class wicket for thecounty, when he moved one away from Key and in the next over, Joe Denly receiveda savage lifter from Mahmood which he gloved to Sutton.Martin van Jaarsveld then fell for Chapple’s three-card trick and tamely gave acatch to backward short-leg Simon Kerrigan, who had been deliberately placedthere a few balls previously. When Sam Northeast sliced Tom Smith to Ashwell Prince in the gully, Kent were53 for 4 and thoroughly in the cart. Jones’ irresponsible slash gave Mahmood his second wicket three overs after the break, Smith’s swing then accounted for James Hockley and a stunning one-handed diving catch by Steven Croft in the gully saw the end of Simon Cook. While wickets fell at the other end, Stevens had been adopting a policy ofselective aggression and he maintained this policy in company with Coles, whooffered useful support with 33, as Lancashire’s hopes of enforcing the follow-onsagged.

Valeu demais, Massa!!!”.

Bangladesh ponder twin spin option

Jamie Siddons, the Bangladesh coach, is hoping the Old Trafford pitch offers assistance to his spinners, as his team aims to build on their efforts in the first Test and give England another tough five-day contest

Jamie Siddons, the Bangladesh coach, is hoping the Old Trafford pitch offers assistance to his spinners, as his team aims to build on their efforts in the first Test and give England another tough five-day contest. Siddons believes a number of the home side’s batsmen, including Kevin Pietersen, are susceptible against slow bowlers, but only if the conditions allow them to have an impact. With warm weather forecast for at least the first three days in Manchester, the indications are that Bangladesh will give serious consideration to including Abdur Razzak, the left-arm spinner, alongside captain Shakib Al Hasan and offspinner Mahmudullah. It didn’t escape Siddons’attention that Pietersen was again dismissed by Shakib in the first innings at Lord’s, the 16th time he has fallen to a left-arm spinner.”If it spins, like everyone is talking about, Shakib will worry the England players when it starts to turn. He’s very good, as his figures suggest,” said Siddons. “If it looks like it will turn, we might even play another spinner, play Razzak and put them under pressure with spin rather than pace, as that had no impact at Lord’s.”If it’s faster, spinning and bouncing a bit, Shakib will be a real handful and there’s a couple of players in the England side that do struggle against good spin,” he added. “We need something, we need spin, that’s our strength. Kevin [Pietersen] has been having trouble and hopefully keeps having trouble but he made [runs] in Dhaka which puts it on the other edge of that sword. They have a lot more trouble with spin than they do with our medium-pacers.”History suggests that Siddons could well get his wish. The last Test to be staged at Old Trafford, against New Zealand in 2008, was dominated by Monty Panesar and Daniel Vettori who took 6 for 37 and 5 for 66 respectively. There has also been turn this season for Lancashire’s young left-arm spinner, Simon Kerrigan, who has had considerable success and has often been used early in the game. However, a pitch that aids the spinners would also bring Graeme Swann into the match after a rare wicketless outing at Lord’s. “Facing their spinners on the last day at Lord’s there was no turn, it just skidded on, but here the spinners normally come into the game quite early because of the bounce, and on days three and four they can be a handful,” said Andrew Strauss. “I was fairly happy with the way Graeme bowled, but they played him well and if he bowls like that again I’m sure he’ll take some wickets.”It really is spin or bust for Bangladesh because, even taking into account Shahadat Hossain’s five-wicket haul last week, their pace resources are thin. Siddons confirmed that there would be a change in the seam-bowling ranks with Shafiul Islam being recalled although it hadn’t been decided which of Robiul Islam or Rubel Hossain would drop out – although both would disappear if two spinners played.”Our bowling was horrendous,” said Siddons. “On day one of the[Lord’s] Test I was ready to go home. But I’m used to that with our bowlers, our bowlers have let us down a lot, particularly our fast bowlers. Our spin bowlers always bring things back.”We lost the game on the first day and, again, there was so much pressure on our batsmen to save a game. We just can’t keep doing that, that’s why we will make a change to the fast bowling. Shafiul will bowl good areas and be consistent, that’s what we need. If Shahadat has another game like his first innings, our attack will be a lot better.”Siddons admits that there is no quick fix when it comes to Bangladesh’s lack of pace, a problem that stems from the country’s insubstantial first-class structure. Sri Lanka is often used as the model of what can be achieved as a Test nation develops, but Bangladesh have never threatened to produce the likes of Chaminda Vaas or Lasith Malinga.”There’s no evidence of fast bowlers,” added Siddons. “The two quickest in Bangladesh are Rubel and Shahadat. In our first-class conditions, the bowlers bowl three or four overs and then the spinners come on so there are no grounds for them to develop, which is really important.”Siddons has approached the Bangladesh board about searching the English leagues for hidden fast-bowling talent. “I keep asking if they are around, I’m sure they are,” he said. “There have been Bangladeshis here long enough to use England for development programmes and grab a few. I haven’t had any names come forward, I’ve pushed it at board level to get the word out there. We’d definitely look at it, if there is a fast bowler who can come back and play for us immediately.”The batting, though, is coming along nicely for Bangladesh. Many watchers were surprised by Bangladesh’s performance at Lord’s, but that wasn’t the case for Siddons who has seen a steady improvement with the bat, but he remained frustrated that the middle-order couldn’t respond.”Our middle-order has held us together,” he said. “I can’t understand why they didn’t bat better at Lord’s although they did always come in against the new ball and in overcast conditions, against a swinging ball, which is tough for any team to make runs and survive in those conditions.”People are still thinking about 12 months ago, we’ve had great Test series against India, New Zealand and England. Our batsmen have applied themselves really well. The Aftabs [Ahmed] aren’t playing any more, Ashraful is trying to apply himself a a lot. Junaid [Siddique] and Imrul [Kayes] never throw their wicket away, they might play a bad shot but it’s not because of rashness.”In the days between the back-to-back Tests, Bangladesh have had a few worries about Tamim Iqbal, their star batsman, who reported a problem with his chest although he is unlikely to miss the match. There is also better news about the left-hander’s wrist problem which now doesn’t require surgery.”By all reports he doesn’t need an operation unless it gets displaced or he can’t bat with the pain, and he batted with the pain no problem in the Test match,” said Siddons. “He’s just got to get over it mentally. It’s healing, it’s got a callus around it, it’s fine.”

Aston Villa pushing for Yves Bissouma

Aston Villa are pushing to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to French journalist Nabil Djellit.

The Lowdown: Bissouma links

Villa have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old for the majority of the January transfer window.

They now have just a few hours to get it over the line, with Brighton reportedly wanting at least €45m (£37.4m) for their star midfielder, who is into the final 18 months of his contract at the Amex Stadium.

Villa have already had a £25m bid rejected by the Seagulls for Bissouma, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham also showing an interest.

The Latest: Djellit’s post

Journalist Djellit took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to provide an update on Bissouma’s future.

He claimed that Villa are pushing for the 25-year-old, adding that Steven Gerrard ‘loves’ the Mali international. Djellit also stated that Spurs are still interested.

The Verdict: To be continued?

Djellit ended his post with a cryptic ‘to be continued’ message, and that may well be the case regarding Villa’s and Spurs’ interest in Bissouma.

It could prove to be too tricky for NSWE to push through a transfer in the final hours of the January window, but Villa are expected to be in for the player in the summer.

Who knows, his €45m (£37.4m) valuation may drop ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Should his situation remain the same by then, he will be into the final year of his Seagulls contract.

He’s clearly a long-term target at Villa Park, and hopefully the club will secure his services – it’s just a question of when that might happen.
