Chasing 188 to win, Nottinghamshire got there comfortably thanks to an unbeaten 85 from Usman Afzaal. To add to their misery Essex were deducted half a point for their slow over rate.Northamptonshire’s batsmen made a much better fist of things second time around after following on 407 runs behind against Derbyshire, but they still lost by eight wickets. Mike Hussey and Mal Loye both completed centuries and there was an innings of 62 from Graham Swann, but they could only set Derbyshire a target of 33 to record their third win in as many matches.David Hemp and Michael Powell led Glamorgan’s efforts to post a challenging target for Worcestershire in the fourth innings. Hemp made 64 and Powell 59 as Glamorgan moved carefully to a lead of 336. There were five wickets for Alamgir Sheriyar. Worcestershire were 25 without loss at the close.

Speaking to Football Insider, BBC Radio 5 Live pundit Alan Hutton has raved about defender Jannik Vestergaard, with Tottenham Hotspur allegedly in talks over signing him.

As per The Times, Tottenham are in talks to sign the Denmark international this summer as the Lilywhites look to revamp most of their defence for new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 28-year-old was a mainstay under Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl last term, starting 29 Premier League matches whilst averaging more clearances per game (four) than any other player in their squad (WhoScored). He also won 3.3 aerial duels per match, a greater average than any player in Spurs’ squad in 2020/21.

Indeed, following his solid season on the south coast, Vestergaard is now firmly on the radar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking to Football Insider in reaction to this update from The Times, Hutton has been left in awe of the colossal 6 foot 5 defender, raving over his strength and technique on the ball.

“Going into the final year of his contract, you can probably pick him up for a decent fee, which would work in favour for the likes of Daniel Levy.

“There’s room for new players to come in. Vestergaard, the power of him, wow, the strength, he doesn’t mind just defending.

“He’s also got that kind of cultured pass so I think he’d fit into that team nicely.”

Vestergaard also shone for Denmark at Euro 2020 before their semi-final defeat to England at Wembley, and it’s little wonder why Spurs have reportedly entered talks.

The Dane’s exploits for Southampton last season warranted huge praise, with Hasenhuttl branding him ‘absolutely phenomenal’ for his sheer strength in the air (Hampshire Live).

Tottenham could certainly use that physical presence as Nuno gears up for his first full season in charge, and Hutton is quite right to talk up the 28-year-old amid the links with Spurs.

England enjoyed a memorable Euro 2020 campaign, eventually losing to Italy in the final but largely doing themselves proud in the tournament.

Phillips was exceptional in the competition, standing out in the middle of the park and taking his Leeds form with him to the international stage.

The 25-year-old’s performances may have made a host of clubs sit up and take notice, meaning the Whites could struggle to keep hold of him in the years to come.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie even claimed that a deal could be in place to allow Phillips to leave Elland Road next summer:

“He was the surprise package of the Euros. To be a starter? Wow, I didn’t see that coming. I think he’ll get another year at Leeds.

“He’ll be wanting a new contract I’d imagine, he’s a superstar now. He’s shown the world what he can do, there will be clubs interested.

“There might be some sort of agreement in place. He could go with the club’s blessing next year. He will make them a lot of money but they won’t want to lose him.

“Personally, I wouldn’t want to leave Leeds this summer but if a bid comes in you never know. I think he’ll stay for one more year, then we’ll see him move.”

The Verdict: Does he have a point?

While this is a bold prediction, there will be understandable concern that Phillips may end up wanting a fresh challenge at a club challenging for silverware consistently.

The midfielder’s current Leeds deal doesn’t expire until 2024, however, so a huge bid would be needed to prise him away from the Whites with the club in an extremely strong negotiating position.

For now, Phillips needs to focus on helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side push for a European finish next season, with the England man arguably his team’s most important player.

Perhaps qualification for the Europa League could tempt him to stay longer than McAvennie predicts.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إنجليزية أن هناك شجارًا قد حدث مساء أمس الخميس، بين اثنين من كبار لاعبي فريق مانشستر يونايتد، خلال التدريبات.

وينتظر مانشستر يونايتد مباراة واحدة فقط في الموسم الحالي، حيث سيواجه كريستال بالاس يوم الأحد 22 مايو الجاري.

وذكرت صحيفة “ذا صن” الإنجليزية أن مركز تدريبات مانشستر يونايتد شهد جلسة تدريبية أمس، ولكنها لم تنتهِ بشكل جيد.

وأوضحت أنه قرب نهاية الحصة التدريبية أمس، حدثت مشادة عنيفة بين اثنين من كبار لاعبي مانشستر يونايتد، دون الكشف عن هويتهما.

بالوتا يجيد اللعب كلاعب وسط دفاعي (ارتكاز) وأيضًا كقلب دفاع، والروماني عقده ينتهي مع برايتون في 30 يونيو 2022، ومن المتوقع أن يرحل عن صفوف فريقه بنهاية الموسم.

وقال بالوتا في تصريحات عبر صحيفة “ذا أثلتيك”: “لم أكن أريد أن تسير الأمور على هذا النحو بعد أن غادرت فيتورول، لأن كل شيء كان يسير في الاتجاه الصحيح،  ولكن ربما كان يجب أن يكون على هذا النحو”.

وأضاف: “أنا لم ألعب الكثير من المباريات، لقد تعرضت لإصابات وأشياء لم أستطع السيطرة عليها، إنه تحدٍ عقلي لأنني لم أكون سعيدًا بسبب عدم مشاركتي”.

وواصل: “أنا أحاول أخذ الإيجابيات من كل تجربة، لذلك على الرغم من أنني لم ألعب إلا أنني أشعر بمزيد من النضج الآن، هذا الكفاح جعلني أقوى”.

وتابع: “اللعب في الدوري الإنجليزي كان حلمي ولا يزال كذلك، أريد أن ألعب في الدوري الإنجليزي، سواء كان ذلك لبرايتون أو لأي نادٍ آخر”.

وأتم تصريحاته قائلًا: “لدينا جميعًا طرق مختلفة للوصول إلى القمة وما زلت 100٪ بالتأكيد يمكنني الوصول إلى حيث أريد أن أكون، أنا أنظر إلى لاعبين مثل محمد صلاح وكيفين دي بروين، تشيلسي لم يهتم بهما والآن هما من أفضل اللاعبين في العالم، سيستغرق الأمر وقتًا وأنا بحاجة إلى بعض الصبر”.
