The Titans were officially crowned SuperSport Series Champions for the 2008-09 season during the tea break on day three, and their match against the Lions ended in a draw a day later in Johannesburg. Their nearest challengers, the Eagles, didn’t manage to pick up the necessary points needed to usurp the Titans, even though they beat the Dolphins by eight wickets with more than two days to spare.By stumps on day three the Lions led by 251 with eight wickets in hand, and on the fourth morning Alviro Petersen smacked his second century of the game before the Lions declared on 167 for 2 in 38 overs. With the title already settled, the Titans went about their stiff target of 333 in 76 at a brisk clip, led by Jacques Rudolph. Despite the loss of the openers Heino Kuhn (27) and Blake Snijman (15) to Freidel de Wet and later Gulam Bodi for 5, Rudolph ticked away undaunted. He found good support from Francois du Plessis but the target was always out of reach. Rudolph finished on 124 from 146 balls and du Plessis 65 from 77.Winning the toss, the Lions racked up a formidable 526 for 9 with Petersen hitting 129 and Dane Vilas 203 off 295 balls. They then reduced the Titans to 126 for 4 on by stumps on day two but Farhaan Behardien’s 114 off 172 balls enabled the Titans avoid the follow-on. Berhardien brought up his 11th first-class half-century off 114 balls before he tore into the Lions’ bowling attack; he needed just 35 balls for his second 50. He and his captain, Pierre Joubert, added 160 for the sixth wicket. Joubert hit 71 from 145 balls, his 15th first-class fifty, before he was bowled by de Wet.This is the third time the Titans have lifted the trophy and it caps off another successful season for them. “It has been awesome, last year when we won two trophies it was a bit of a dream, but to repeat that feat this season has been fabulous,” said Joubert. “It has been a team effort, everyone contributed. When the chips were down there was always someone who came in and played well.”Going back to the Eagles’ crushing win over the Dolphins by eight wickets inside two days in Kimberley. Set a target of 93 in the final session, the Eagles needed just 22 overs to seal victory, with the opener Reeza Hendricks hitting 42 off 49 balls and Boeta Dippenaar 37 off 57 deliveries. The Dolphins trailed by 73 when the day began and folded for 175 in 50 overs. The main contributor to that poor effort was Jon Kent, with a battling 64 off 95 balls. The promising 19-year-old left-arm fast bowler Obus Pienaar, who took 4 for 46 in the Dolphin’s poor first-innings 132, picked up 4 for 40 in the second. From a dismal match, the one positive the Dolphins could take was the efforts of of Kyle Abbott, the 21-year-old allrounder. His 50 was the highest score in the first innings and he followed it with for 4 for 40 in the Eagles’ innings of 215. He added two quick wickets in the second innings too.The Warriors beat the Cobras with more than a day to spare in East London, there by tightening their hold on the No. 3 spot. Darryl Brown and Zander de Bruyn shared eight wickets to dismiss the Cobras for a paltry 74 in their second innings – far worse than the 124 put up in the first dig – and seal a whopping 236-run win. The Warriors were bowled out for 197 in their second innings with Davy Jacobs scoring 101 off 153 balls. That left the Cobras an unlikely 311 to win, and Brown and de Bruyn took four wickets each. Earlier, having been put into bat, the Cobras had done well to keep the Warriors to 237 thanks to seven wickets from Claude Henderson. But five from Andrew Birch then gave the Warriors a 113-run lead. It proved a handy lead.

E a urgência surtiu efeito logo no começo do primeiro tempo.

Crucial inspections never took place

A crucial inspection of the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium prior to West Indies’ Test against Australia in June 2008, and again before the abandoned Test on Friday against England, never took place according to an anonymous WICB source

Cricinfo staff14-Feb-2009A crucial inspection of the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium prior to West Indies’ Test against Australia in June 2008, and again before the abandoned Test on Friday against England, never took place according to a WICB source. In an email to Cricinfo the source said that the WICB wrote to the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Baldwin Spencer, saying “they wanted assurances and would want to do a thorough inspection in sufficient time to shift the venue if they had to”. The health minister, John Maginley, reportedly gave a verbal assurance but “the WICB did not press the issue and the game took place”. Only a single session was played on the third day in the drawn Test against Australia owing to a sodden outfield and poor drainage – two factors which also blighted the ground during the 2007 World Cup.The abandonment of Friday’s second Test against England was for altogether different reasons. However, grounds in the West Indies are supposed to host a regional game prior to a Test match, in order to ready the pitch and playing areas – or in Friday’s case, simply ascertain the ground’s viability in staging any form of match. This also never happened. “The WICB never insisted strongly,” wrote the source.Spencer, meanwhile, has announced a probe into the second Test fiasco. “It is my intention to commission an investigation into the unacceptable condition of the outfield at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground,” Spencer said. “There can be lessons in today’s aborted Test match that may pre-empt any such occurrence in cricket in the future.”The Government will mobilise all resources necessary to ensure that the Antigua Recreation Ground is prepared to the standards required to guarantee the safety of players and the convenience of spectators for the start of the rescheduled second Test on Sunday.””I apologise to the players and spectators for today’s unfortunate development. I extend particular apologies to the thousands of cricketing fans from the United Kingdom whose presence richly enhances the contest between the home team and England,” Spencer said.”Antigua and Barbuda owes them a stay with us that will be memorable not for today’s debacle, but for the warmth of our hospitality and for the excitement of the Test match that will commence on Sunday.”

Liverpool linked to Yves Bissouma

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma despite intense interest in the player’s services.

What’s the story?

According to the Daily Star, the Reds are set to battle it out with fellow Premier League outfit Arsenal for the highly-rated 25-year-old’s signature in January.

The report states that: “Bissouma is one of their top targets, though they will have to fend off competition from Mikel Arteta’s Gunners if they are to bring him to Anfield.”

Bissouma has entered the final two years of his current contract the Amex Stadium, meaning the winter window is likely to be the last chance for Brighton to secure a high price for their prized asset.

Jurgen Klopp needs him

After arriving on English shores back in 2018, the combative dynamo has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the top-flight, racking up 101 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions.

He featured in all but two of Brighton’s league games last season, highlighting his importance to Graham Potter’s side, and when looking at his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why.

As per WhoScored, Bissouma recorded an average of 2.9 tackles per game, the highest total amongst his teammates who made over three appearances in 2020/21.

The Mali international also outperformed his colleagues when it came to interceptions, making 1.8 per Premier League fixture, but it wasn’t just his off-the-ball work where he excelled.

Bissouma achieved a passing accuracy of 87.4%, the third-highest tally in the whole of the Brighton squad, showcasing his adeptness at kickstarting attacks as well as breaking up the opponent’s play.

They’re all attributes that led to Gary Lineker labelling him an “exceptional footballer” on Twitter and would serve him well should he make the step up and join Liverpool over the coming months, and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp needs further reinforcements in his engine room.

The departure of Gini Wijnaldum has left the Anfield outfit short of options in the middle of the park after no replacement was signed over the meaning, especially after Harvey Elliott suffered a dislocated ankle in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

It remains to be seen whether the teenager’s injury forces Liverpool into the transfer market in January, although the arrival of the £22.5m-rated Bissouma would be a significant boost to their chances of success.

And, in other news…Edwards must secure Liverpool swoop for £28.8m-rated wizard, Klopp would love him

Pujara powers Saurashtra to splendid win

Saurashtra extended the season of improbable chases by reaching the target of 325 set by Karnataka with considerable ease

Saurashtra joined in the season of improbable chases by reaching the target of 325 set by Karnataka with considerable ease to enter their second successive Ranji Trophy semi-final. Cheteshwar Pujara scored a match-winning century under pressure and was helped by contributions from Shitanshu Kotak, Ravindra Jadeja and captain Jaydev Shah. The backbone of the chase was the 163-run fourth-wicket partnership between Pujara and Kotak that dimmed and then ended Karnataka’s hopes of victory. Those hopes had flared on a spectacular catch by B Akhil, who threw himself to the right to grab Bhushan Chauhan’s outside edge off Vinay Kumar, and ebbed quietly as the Kotak-Pujara combine took centrestage. Both batsmen played enterprisingly, taking their chances rather than grafting around and waiting for the bad deliveries. Kotak prodded one past point and ran three off his first ball in the morning off Vinay and later got away with two edges that whistled past the slips and gully. Pujara took 22 balls for his first run but was soon into the groove, his first three scoring shots being fours. The first was a punch straight down the ground off Vinay, followed by a square-drive on the back foot in the bowler’s next over. He then cut NC Aiyappa, who had already been clipped past midwicket by Kotak in the same over, when the bowler pitched short and wide.Pujara, who began the season with big knocks but failed to reach a half-century in his last seven innings, brought the 50-run partnership with a handsome cover drive off Sunil Joshi – it beat the diving fielders at cover and mid-off. At the other end, Kotak brought up his fifty in style, moving quickly outside the line of a delivery from Vinay to push it to the boundary at long-on.Pujara pulled Joshi immediately in the first over post lunch to get to his half-century. Kotak, the more experienced of the two, realised the session was vital and tried to face most of the deliveries. Vinay got the ball to reverse, and Kotak patiently waited for the bowler to commit an error. When Vinay bowled full on his leg, Kotak found the boundary at square-leg. He even stepped out to hit Joshi over mid-on for a one-bounce four. With none of their bowlers able to impose themselves, Karnataka were clutching at straws. As the pressure mounted, Robin Uthappa, the Karnataka captain, let the experienced Rahul Dravid take charge in the field, but even he could not do much apart from shining the ball, patting the bowlers and clapping. Karnataka’s best chance arrived when Pujara, on 58, chased an away-going delivery in Akhil’s second over but C Raghu, standing wide at first slip, fumbled an easy catch. The score was 148 and it proved to be a turning point as Pujara proceeded to seal Saurashtra’s victory.Kotak, who has built his reputation as a stonewaller by picking his runs in the brick-by-brick fashion, took the initiative in this innings, not hesitating to hook the fast bowlers. By the time Kotak departed, caught-and-bowled by C Raghu half an hour before tea, Saurashtra’s man Friday had virtually robbed Karnataka’s chances of winning. In walked Ravindra Jadeja – arms swinging, chest high, eager to finish the job. He pulled Aiyappa on arrival, and put the pressure back on the bowlers by pulling and sweeping Raghu for consecutive fours a couple of overs later. When Joshi returned for his second spell in the afternoon, Jadeja stepped out to club the veteran left-arm spinner over mid-off for another four, and later for a straight hit down the ground.Saurashtra went to tea requiring 105 runs in the remaining 32 overs. Pujara, who was subdued in the second session, returned with renewed vigour and Karnataka were fast receding against the agility of the 20-year-olds. Having pulled Vinay for another boundary to bring the target below the 100-mark, Jadeja cut Joshi for a four and then walked a single to long-on to complete a swift half-century. He was caught at point trying to slog-sweep Raghu, but Jaydev Shah carried forward the assault with a ruthless half-century of his own that included nine hits past the boundary and a six over widish long-on.Saurashtra will face Mumbai in the semi-final in Chennai, starting January 4.

Filho de Guerra melhora e aparece em vídeo brincando no hospital

Internado desde quarta-feira, Assael, filho mais novo de Alejandro Guerra, apareceu neste domingo em um vídeo brincando no hospital Albert Einstein. A mãe e esposa do jogador do Palmeiras, Kris Espejo, fez a publicação no Instagram, dizendo que a criança estava melhor.

Bangladesh look to build on improved showing

Preview of the first ODI of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe

Big PictureBangladesh failed to beat Sri Lanka in a thrilling tri-series final in Mirpur but an improved performance in their last two ODI’s – including a win against Sri Lanka in the group stage – will give them the edge going into the three-match series against Zimbabwe. The hosts were upset by Zimbabwe in the first match of that tri-series but were able to raise their game when it mattered. Bangladesh had relied heavily on Shakib Al Hasan in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, and while he continued his good form in the tri-series, his team’s better show in the tournament was the result of a more collective effort.Shakib was well supported by spin partner Naeem Islam and the fast bowlers rose to the occasion. Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain took seven wickets between them in Bangladesh’s win in the league match against Sri Lanka, and Nazmul Hossain took three wickets in the final to help reduce Sri Lanka to 6 for 5. However, their top three batsmen struggled, managing only 46 runs between them in three games, and Zimbabwe will be keen to capitalise on their lean run.Zimbabwe won their first ODI against a Test-playing nation in over a year when they beat Bangladesh in the tri-series opener, but their batsmen capitulated for 80 against Sri Lanka. They had run Sri Lanka close in three of the five ODI’s in their home series prior to the tour of Bangladesh but squandered winning positions in each of those three games. They also struggled against the spin of Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan, and subsequently against Shakib and Naeem, who took three wickets each in the tri-series opener. Zimbabwe won their tour match against Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy comprehensively, but their batsmen failed once again and were bowled out for 89 in the first innings. Both teams were inconsistent, and had their highs against Sri Lanka in recent encounters, but Bangladesh peaked at the right time and their impressive performance against a quality outfit will give them the confidence and the momentum going into the ODI series.Form guide (last five completed ODIs, most recent first)Zimbabwe LWLLL
Bangladesh LWLLLWatch out forEd Rainsford took seven wickets in his last three ODIs, including two successive three-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka, and will spearhead Zimbabwe’s pace attack. He’s taken 10 wickets at 36.20 against Bangladesh and will want to improve upon that. He also took 3 for 27 in the first innings of the tour match to bowl out BCB Academy for 59.Nazmul Hossain performed well in the tri-series final, taking 3 for 30, and shone against Zimbabwe in the tour-match, capturing eight wickets. However, he would want to reduce his economy-rate of 5.54 and support new-ball partner Mashrafe Mortaza before Shakib and Naeem are brought on to bowl.TeamsRubel Hossain took four wickets in Bangladesh’s win against Sri Lanka in the league stage of the tri-series, and despite proving expensive in the final, he’s likely to be retained in place of Mahbubul Alam. Bangladesh, however, made a change to the batting order with Mohammad Ashraful moving up to No 3.Bangladesh (probable) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Junaid Siddique, 3 Mohammad Ashraful (capt), 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Raqibul Hasan, 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Naeem Islam, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza ,10 Nazmul Hossain, 11 Rubel Hossain.Zimbabwe were yet to announce their 12 for the match. Despite the flop against Sri Lanka, they might retain the winning team that beat Bangladesh.Zimbabwe (probable) 1 Vusi Sibanda, 2 Hamilton Masakadza, 3 Tatenda Taibu, 4 Stuart Matsikenyeri, 5 Sean Williams, 6 Elton Chigumbura, 7 Keith Dabengwa, 8 Prosper Utseya (capt), 9 Ray Price, 10 Tawanda Mupariwa, 11 Ed Rainsford.Conditions
The pitches during the tri-series produced a series of low scores with an average of 18.60 per wicket in the last four ODIs. The side winning the toss chose to field each time, with the pace bowlers looking to utilise the favourable conditions in the morning and take some early wickets.Stats and Trivia The average runs-per-wicket at the Shere Bangla National Stadium is 26.49, significantly higher than the 18.60 in the four matches in the tri-series. Bangladesh average 26.97 per-wicket here in 17 matches.Zimbabwe enjoy a 19-15 win-loss record against Bangladesh. Since 2006 though, they have won five and lost 11 against them.Quotes”We want to win every match convincingly. That’s how we approach every game we play. I guess 200 can be a competitive score if you bowl and field well.”
“We are all expecting it to be 3-0 if we play good cricket in all three departments. We will go into it match by match.”

Preview: QPR XI vs Bristol City

While Mark Warburton saw his Queens Park Rangers side suffer their first defeat of the Championship season in mid-week, there are nevertheless a number of reasons for the 59-year-old Rs manager to be delighted with the way things are going at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this term.

Indeed, prior to the 2-1 loss against a highly impressive AFC Bournemouth side, QPR had picked up three wins and three draws in the league, including impressive away wins at both Middlesbrough and Hull City, scoring 15 goals in the process.

However, it is undeniable that, should Warburton wish to reinforce his team’s top-six credentials to the rest of the league, the visit of a 12th placed Bristol City side is a fixture his side must be winning.

So, will the 59-year-old make any changes to the team that started last time out against Bournemouth? Here’s how we think QPR could line up against the Robins, along with the latest team and injury news…

With both Charlie Austin and Moses Odubajo once again being available for selection after missing the loss against the Cherries, Warburton has plenty to consider ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Bristol City.

However, while we predict that the Rs boss will make two changes to his starting XI, neither Austin nor Odubajo come into the side.

Instead, after highly impressing in two substitute appearances at wing-back – earning a SofaScore match rating of 7.3 against Reading at left wing-back and a 7.4 match rating against Bournemouth at right wing-back – Albert Adomah comes into the side for the £540k-rated Osman Kakay, who has been extremely disappointing in the position so far this season, and particularly on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rather than Austin coming in up top, Andre Gray could be set to start his first league fixture since joining QPR on a season-long loan from Watford, with the 30-year-old having already bagged his first goal for the Rs on his debut against Reading.

Elsewhere, Sam McCallum keeps his place at left wing-back after impressing in mid-week, while the midfield trio of Stefan Johansen, Dominic Ball and Ilias Chair remains unchanged.

In other news: Warburton must unleash “positive” £18k-p/w ace vs BCFC, he could solve big QPR problem
